Sports Minister scores a touchdown in Aylesford

In one of her final duties ahead of the general election, Sports Minister, Tracey Crouch MP, paid a visit to St Peter’s Primary School in Aylesford and participated in a PE lesson of flag football on Friday 28th April.

St Peter’s could be taking a big step forward in producing a potential NFL star of the future as the school has been awarded a set of equipment to play flag football in the school which Ms Crouch presented to them.

St Peter’s was one of eight schools across the county which was presented with a bag, which provides them with all the equipment they need to play flag football in their school. The special PE session was run by Joe Walker, Head of Coaching at AFD Limited, and a GB Students football coach.

Mitch Holt, PE Teacher at the school was delighted to receive the bag of equipment. “This is such a boost for us and for the children. They love playing the game and with this we can get many more classes involved in playing.”

St Peter’s were one of the schools to participate in the first ever Kent School Games flag football competition, and with their new bag of equipment will be preparing in readiness for next year’s competition.

For Natalie Harris, Countryside, Leisure and Sports Events Manager for Kent Sport comments, the donation of the bags was a key : “Since the sport was first introduced to the county three years ago, we have seen a massive increase in participants in the sport. From the satellite club program seeing children move into American Football clubs, from participation leading to an official school games competition, the sport has really been on the rise and we’re delighted to help eight schools in the county be able to continue to play through the provision of these equipment bags.”

Flag Football is the non-tackle version of American Football and Kent Sport have been working closely with local company American Football Development Limited (AFD) to see the sport grow and flourish.

Tracey ready to throw

“We are grateful for Kent Sport for their continued support of the game of flag football in the county, said Gur Samuel, Managing Director of AFD Limited.

“We would like to thank Tracey for presenting the bag of equipment to the pupils at St Peter’s and who knows one day it might even be a Super Bowl ring!”
