AFD, deliverers of flag football coaching across the South-East of England have today launching a new sports program called ‘Touchdown Time’.

‘Touchdown Time’ has been specifically created for Key Stage 1 pupils in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum for PE. Children learn a range of movements as well as take part in competitive game based situations.

Gur Samuel, Managing Director for AFD Limited commented: “From the conversations we had with schools, we saw there was a growing need to provide a fun introduction to sport at Key Stage 1 level.”

Children enjoying a Touchdown Time session

Touchdown Time is not just about a first start into American Football, but about teaching children a range of physical and motor skills which they can build and develop over a wide number of sports as they move through physical education.”

This new program has cross curricular links with literacy, maths, citizenship and science all playing a part in each session. Children learn a range of movement skills such as jumping, balancing, running, catching and throwing as well as practised dance and choreographed dance movements.

The sessions also see children gain a greater understanding of personal hygiene, care and diet providing pupils with a fun and educational introduction into one of the UK’s fastest growing sports.

Joanna Hawxwell from Canary Wharf College which is one school which has already experienced ‘Touchdown Time’ sessions commented; “The Key Stage one really enjoyed the sessions and the coach was so good with the kids. I could see how much they had improved in one session.”

Team work to get to Touchdowns!
