After a degree in Communications and Society from the University of Leicester, Guthrie took a year out to travel across Australia and upon returning to the UK began working within Sports Development for Kent County Council. He began his career as the Kent Hockey Development Officer, a Sport that he had played at Club and representative level as a Junior and Student. Over a 12 year period he held a number of development roles within Kent Sport, working on building relationships and networks for Clubs and Schools.
Guthrie is passionate about developing the game of American Football in the UK and has been instrumental in forging links between American Football Clubs and Secondary Schools, opening up funding and playing pathways as well as getting more schools playing across the South East. He is looking to bringing more groups together over the coming year and interested in talking to more Schools and Clubs.
About working for AFD, Guthrie says,
“The potential for American Football is huge within this Country and I am excited about the opportunity to try and help introduce more participants of any age to the Sport”.
